"Miami" John Cernuto was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on January
11th, 1944. John now resides in Las Vegas Nevada where he is married
with three children. John Cernuto is a former air traffic controller
who worked at Miami-Dade International Airport for 17 years before
president Reagan fired all the airline employees that participated in
the strike of 1981. That ended Cernuto's days in the airline industry
but by then he had already been playing poker since the age of 20 and
decided to take it on full-time. Immediately, John moved to Las Vegas
and in 1988 won his first major tournament collecting $50,000 at a
Caesar's Palace tournament - he hasn't looked back ever since.

Cernuto's tournament poker career spans two decades with earnings
surpassing 2.5 million dollars from tournaments in the United States
and Europe. Cernuto has 3 WSOP bracelets to his name from the events of
Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo (1996), No Limit Hold 'em (1997), and Limit Omaha
(2002). Some of John's other tournament achievements include: 1st place
in the 2003 Austrian Masters World Heads Up Poker Championships worth
$70,505, 1st place in the 2004 L.A. Poker Classic Omaha Hi/Lo event
worth $45,600, 1st place in the 2004 Bay 101 Shooting Star Omaha Hi/Lo
event worth $ 24,000, and a 2nd place finish in the 2004 WSOP Omaha
Hi/Lo Split World Championship event taking home $103,500. Recently,
John had a final table appearance in the 2005 WSOP taking 4th place in
the $2,00 buy-in Limit Hold'em event worth $73,285. "Miami" John
Cernuto is a long time veteran of the game that is respected by his
fellow players and will continue to make final tables for as long as he
chooses to stay on the tournament scene.
