Barny Boatman
Barny Boatman was born in Summerstown, England and now lives in
Archway, England where he continues to work as a freelance journalist
and screenwriter. Barny is a member of the "Hendon Mob" - a group of
players composed of Ram Vaswani, Joe Beevers, and Barny's younger
brother, Ross Boatman. The group travels the world under the
sponsorship of Prima Poker, blazing a trail of cashes from Vegas to
Helsinki. The Boatman brothers actually made a final table together at
the 2002 WSOP, and then again at the 2003 Four Queens Poker Classic
where big bro took first and little bro took second. Barny works as a
commentator on some of Europe's most popular poker shows, even in
tournaments that he plays in himself. When he's not playing in
tournaments, Barny enjoys living on the edge with hobbies like
skydiving, scuba, and snow boarding.
If Barny is willing to take
such risks with his recreational activities, then you can imagine the
type of player he is at the poker table. Barny's style of play is bold
and unpredictable, making it hard for opponents to pick up a read on
him. This style of play seems to be working for big brother Boatman
with career earnings in tournament poker totaling more than $670,000.
Some of Barny's achievements in tournament poker include: 3rd place in
the 1999 Master Classics of Poker taking home $31,667, 16th place in
the 2000 WSOP Main Event worth $39,120 in prize money, 2nd place in the
2002 WSOP Pot Limit Hold 'em event worth $77,160, and 2nd place in the
2004 European Poker Classic cashing in $45,420. Recently, Barny played
in the 2005 WSOP and cashed in 4 events but just seemed to finish shy
of the big money taking around $22,000 in prize money home to England.
Barny is due for a major tournament win soon - watch for him (with or
with out little brother Ross) at a final table soon.
