Diego Cordovez was born in New York City, New York in 1965 and now
lives in Palo Alto, California. Diego started playing poker in the 1st
grade with his teacher who used poker to teach the kids their basic
math skills. Diego remained a student of the game, reading every poker
book before even beginning to play in 1991. Cordovez is a successful
businessman who plays poker part-time and claims a full-time pursuit of
poker is too much of a grind for him. Diego is the CEO of Advanced
Global Applications - a company that builds online poker sites. When he
isn't running the business or playing in tournaments, Cordovez is
contributing poker articles to Cardplayer magazine - one of the
premiere poker publications in the world.
Diego Cordovez has
accumulated over $1 million in tournament winnings in his career with
one WSOP bracelet. Diego's bracelet came in the 2000 WSOP No Limit Hold
'em $2,000 buy-in event good for $293,040. Diego almost took home two
more bracelets in 2002 with a 3rd place finish in the No Limit Hold 'em
event and a 2nd place finish in the S.H.O.E. event, collecting around
$62,000 in prize money. Cordovez took first place in the 2002 L.A.
Poker Classic Limit Hold 'em event which was the biggest prize pool for
a limit tournament to date, netting Diego $570,000 in prize money.
Diego continues to play poker about 20 hours a week in live games and
online, while making sure to play a variety of poker variations so as
to not get bored with a particular game. One thing he'll probably never
get bored of is winning the big tournament prize money.
