Greg Raymer

Greg Raymer was born in 1965 and is originally from North Dakota. Greg now resides in Stonington Connecticut and works as a patent attorney for Pfizer - he has a wife and daughter. Greg acquired the nickname "Fossilman" because he uses a fossil at the table to protect his cards, and Greg's freaky holographic shades have become somewhat of a trademark. Greg started playing poker in college and, eventually, after reading some poker books, moved from 3-6 games to 20-40 and eventually the 150-300 game at Foxwoods Casino near his home in Connecticut.

Greg acquired a final table finish in 2000 at the World Poker Finals coming in third place. Although Greg had been playing poker regularly for several years with small successes along the way, nothing would compare to his first place finish in the 2004 WSOP main event, defeating 2,575 players in the biggest tournament in the history of the WSOP. Greg would collect over 5 million dollars in prize money for the victory, the largest pay out in poker history. An interesting fact about the final table that year is that 4 out of 9 of the players, including Greg, qualified for the main event via online satellite tournaments.
