John Bonetti
John Bonetti was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1928 and now lives in
Houston, Texas with his wife and four children. John Bonetti used to
manage apartments and didn't take up poker until later on in life hen
he was 55 years old. In 1985, John went on a trip with some friends to
his first poker tournament in Lafayette, Louisiana and he won $28,000.
Bonetti would go on to prove his first win wasn't beginners luck by
continuing to win tournaments for the next 20 years, accumulating
almost $2 million in tournament prize money in his career. John Bonetti
not only defeated other poker players during his career - but he also
had a victory against cancer in 1993 after being diagnosed with
prostate and spinal cancer. Twelve years later, John is healthy and
remains a steady presence on the tournament poker scene, chalking up
the wins and piling up the prize money.
Besides his 2 million in
earnings, John Bonetti has 3 WSOP bracelets to his name coming from the
events of Deuce to Seven Draw (1990 and 1995)) and Pot Limit Hold 'em
(1993) totaling over $300,000 in prize money combined. Some of John
Bonetti's other achievements in tournament poker include: 3rd place in
the 1993 WSOP Main Event worth $210,000, 2nd place in the 1996 WSOP
$5,000 Limit Hold 'em event worth $135,700, 3rd place in the 1996 WSOP
Main Event collecting $341,250, and 2nd place in the 1999 WSOP $1,500

WSOP - he's one of the top 20 all-time money winners in the history of
the WSOP. Recently, John had three cash finishes at the 2005 WSOP
including a 3rd place finish in the $5,000 No Limit Hold 'em event good
for $175,215. John Bonetti is a veteran tournament poker professional
