Paul Darden was born in New Haven Connecticut in 1968 and still
lives in Connecticut with his wife and four children. Paul's father had
a poker club in New Haven and taught his son how to play poker starting
at age 8. Since then, Paul Darden picked up another poker mentor along
the way (and not a bad one) Phil Ivey. Paul met Phil in Atlantic City
where Phil encouraged Paul to take up the game of No Limit Hold 'em and
told him about something called the World Series of Poker. Ivey gave
Paul the confidence (and money) to play in his first WSOP tournament,
and has remained Paul's poker coach and good friend to this day.
Paul
Darden has cashed in over 45 major tournaments in his career. Some of
Paul's achievements in tournament poker include: 1st place in the 2001
WSOP Seven Card Stud event worth a gold bracelet and $147,440, 1st
place in the 2002 WPT Gold Rush No Limit Hold 'em event worth $146,000,
and most recently a 5th place finish in the $10,000 WPT Limit Hold 'em
event in March of 2005, taking home a cool $300,000. Paul Darden is a
sold player who claims he has all but given up on side games, which
means he'll be in many more tournaments, and final tables, in the
future.
